Lectors

Who We Are

Lectors play a crucial role in Catholic liturgies by proclaiming the Word of God during Mass. They read scripture passages from the Old and New Testaments, excluding the Gospel, which is typically read by a priest or deacon. By delivering these readings, lectors help convey the biblical foundations of faith to the congregation, enhancing the worship experience by bringing the sacred texts to life. This ministry requires a clear and effective public speaking ability, as well as a deep respect for the scriptures. Lectors also often read the prayers of the faithful and make announcements, contributing further to the liturgical function and flow of the Mass. Their service fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Mass among parishioners, making them integral to the spiritual life of the church.

Daily Readings
Prayer for Lectors

Everlasting God, When we read in the synagogue at Nazareth, Your Son proclaimed the good news of salvation for which he would give up his life. Bless these readers.

As they proclaim you words of life. Strengthen their faith that they may read with conviction and boldness, and put into practice what they read.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen
